Ingredients

This creamy, rich pasta sauce uses ingredients you already have at home.

Butter Yes. Yes.

Garlic Cloves I prefer fresh peeled garlic to cook with, but you can use pre-minced garlic from a jar.

All-purpose flour – A little bit to thicken the sauce.

Half and one. I know you don’t want to use milk or any substitute, but please do not. This is much more delicious than the real thing.

Parmesan Cheese – A little, but a lot for a rich flavor. Fresh grated – either grate it yourself or purchase grated cheese from the dairy section, not the pasta aisle.

Parsley — More than just for garnish.

Seasoning Salt and pepper to your taste

How to make Garlic Cream Sauce

This creamy sauce can be made quickly on the stovetop.

Saute the garlic. Heat the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Sauté the garlic until fragrant for about 30 seconds.

Prepare a roux. Stir in the flour and cook for approximately 1 minute until lightly browned.

Mix the cream—season with Salt and pepper.

Add the cheese. Stir the Parmesan and parsley, and then turn off the heat.

Substitutions

Half and half – You can make this sauce with heavy cream, but whole milk makes it thicker and more decadent.

Garlic won’t taste like garlic cream sauce, but you can substitute finely chopped shallot if you have gone wrong.

Variations

For a brighter sauce, try my lemon pepper garlic cream sauce. This sauce is delicious and has a little bit of lemon and pepper.

Storage

After cooking, you should serve this sauce immediately. It will only keep for a short time.

Tips

For best results, serve immediately. The mixture will thicken even more if it is heated.

Garlic can be overcooked quickly, which will ruin its flavour.
